A Little About LSE
Founded in 1895 by Beatrice and Sidney Webb, alongside Graham Wallas and George Bernard Shaw, the London School of Economics and Political Science was born out of a visionary breakfast meeting on 4 August 1894. Funded initially by a £20,000 bequest from the estate of Henry Hunt Hutchinson, LSE opened its first classes in rooms near the Strand in Westminster. It joined the University of London in 1900 and quickly grew into one of the world’s foremost institutions for the study of economics, politics, and the social sciences. Situated in the heart of London on Houghton Street, close to the historic Clare Market, LSE has educated generations of thinkers, leaders, and changemakers from across the globe. The BSc (Econ) and DSc (Econ) degrees, established in 1901, were the first university degrees in the world dedicated specifically to the social sciences — a legacy your own certificate proudly continues.
