St Mary’s University has a remarkable story behind it. Founded in 1850 by the Catholic Poor Schools Committee — beginning with just six students in Brook Green, Hammersmith — it holds the distinction of being the oldest Catholic university in the United Kingdom. In 1925, the university relocated to the grounds of the iconic Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham, a celebrated masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture that remains its home today.
