A University Steeped in History

The University of Cumbria, headquartered in Carlisle, was formed in 2007 through the merger of St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts, and the University of Central Lancashire’s Cumbria sites, yet its roots stretch back as far as 1822, with the founding of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts.
