About the Royal College of Pathologists

The Royal College of Pathologists has a distinguished history rooted in the advancement of medical science. The College of Pathologists was founded on 21 June 1962, born out of a strong desire among pathologists to have, as they put it, “their own house and be masters in it.” It received its Royal Charter in February 1970, and its first substantive headquarters were established at 2 Carlton House Terrace — a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse in the heart of Westminster, London — formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 10 December 1970. The College is now headquartered at 6 Alie Street, London, and its Fellowship Examination (FRCPath) is recognised as the definitive standard of fitness to practise across the pathological sciences. Its current Patron is King Charles III.
