About RADA

Founded on 25 April 1904 by actor-manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree at His Majesty’s Theatre in the Haymarket, London, RADA is one of the oldest and most celebrated drama schools in the world. In 1920, the Academy was granted a Royal Charter, cementing its status as a leading institution in the dramatic arts. Situated on Gower Street in Bloomsbury, the Academy has been the training ground for some of the most iconic names in British and international performance — among them Anthony Hopkins, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Kenneth Branagh, Imelda Staunton, and Tom Hiddleston. George Bernard Shaw was so devoted to RADA that he financed the rebuilding of its Gower Street premises and left one-third of his royalties to the Academy upon his death.
