About Thames Valley University

Thames Valley University gained university status in 1992, when the Polytechnic of West London took the name. It was formed from a collection of colleges, including Ealing College of Higher Education, Thames Valley College of Higher Education, the London College of Music and Queen Charlotte’s College of Health Care Studies. The institution’s roots go back to 1860, when the Lady Byron School was founded. It merged with Reading College and School of Arts and Design in 2004. In April 2011 it was renamed the University of West London, so a Thames Valley University award is a distinctive piece of that history.
